Selling Online
Business to Consumer sites are often referred to as B2C sites. This model incorporates many of the features of an information resource with the additional facility for engaging in sales directly to web site users.
A business using this model would publish a catalogue of the products that they sell along with pricing information, product data sheets and specifications, along with an online purchasing facility referred to as a shopping cart.
The shopping cart system must be able to calculate tax, freight and other charges that may apply to the products being sold via the web site. The online store will need a range of administrative tools that track and store order information, billing details and payment methods.
Many B2C sites provide users with a facility to purchase goods using a credit card. In many cases the credit card will be validated and authenticated immediately (online processing), this means that the sale value is immediately credited to the online store bank account. Setting up online credit card validation can be a little time consuming as the merchant must get a valid merchant account id from their bank before they can accept cards online.
